About this Event
For students considering a career in Architecture. This immersive 3-day program serves as an introduction to the role of an Architect, the journey of the architectural education leading to being a registered Architect.
Students will learn about the differentiated opportunities from Diploma, Undergraduate and Masters in Architecture to better understand the uniqueness of architecture pedagogy, the possible career paths and multitude of options available so they can be better informed in making the major decision to embark on the extensive architecture learning journey.
During these 3 days, students will get to experience the design process of a project from scratch where the steps of Design Thinking methodology are introduced to understand and define the needs and challenges of who they are designing for. They will begin their preliminary design with sketches before building up their ideas in 3D, both as a physical model and digitally through SketchUp, a 3D modelling computer-aided design software commonly used by Architects.
On the 3rd day, students will be introduced to tools and tips to graphically layout their presentation board ready for their Design Crit, a simulated presentation format common to architecture students. The 3-day program will end with presentation sharing by speakers who are practicing Architects, Architecture Educator, Graduate Architects and/ or Architecture students who can provide an overview of their exciting and creative journey to date.

"The 3-day programme was fun and educational on how architects practice and what they do, and keeping it interesting and engaging for the students. The building of the model was fun and educational as it made me think about how to separate private and public spaces in a home as well as accessibility and functionality of spaces." – Javien

"I think that the SketchUp skills are important and the opportunity to create their model is great. Hands-on model making is always fun and the realization of ideas are important. My son enjoyed himself and learnt well too. Thank you for offering the program!" – Grace (Parent)
