If you are interested in storytelling, but don’t know where to start, these workshops facilitated by Sheila Wee, are for you. In two 7-hour modules of hands-on training (over 2 consecutive Saturdays), you will gain a firm grounding in storytelling skills. You will leave with one ready-to-tell story and the tools and confidence to learn and tell more stories.

In the second of a two-part workshop, further develop your storytelling skills. Discover your own personal storytelling style. Find out which types of stories work for different audiences and how to use an effective story architecture to craft stories. Through group, partner and individual exercises, learn how to add details to make the story uniquely yours, and learn effective story rehearsal and performance techniques.

Outline for Introduction to Storytelling II:

  • Which types of stories work for different age groups
  • Understanding the ingredients for an effective storytelling experience
  • Being in the moment - working on being spontaneous in your storytelling
  • How to use effective story architecture in crafting your stories
  • Discovering your natural storytelling style
  • Going deeper into the story for better performance
  • Reflections

This workshop is suitable for beginners and is available as part of a bundle for participants who have attended Introduction to Storytelling I. The Introduction to Storytelling I & II workshops are in-person programmes and will be held at the Singapore Book Council at Goodman Arts Centre.

Facilitator

Sheila Wee has been a professional storyteller for 21 years and has been running the Introduction to Storytelling Course in various forms since 1999.

As well as running Storywise, her storytelling business, Sheila is a Director of the Federation of Asian Storytellers (FEAST), a Director of the Singapore based non-profit Story Connection and a former President and current Executive Committee member of the Storytelling Association (Singapore).

Sheila’s storytelling experience is deep and wide-ranging. She has performed for thousands of preschool, primary and secondary students, curated and performed exhibit specific performances for museums, trained tourist guides and docents to use storytelling in their tours, trained teachers and lecturers to use storytelling in their teaching and corporate, military and civil service leaders in the use of storytelling as an organisational tool.

Sheila’s highly practical workshops have garnered consistently high ratings from participants. Her Singapore clients include the ECDA, MOE, WWF, Star Learners Preschool Group, National Gallery, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy–NUS, Yale-NUS, SMU, SIT, STB, MND, HDB.

Cancellation:

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to 5 working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Those who did not turn up at the workshop will not receive a refund.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation and withdrawal policy and accept the terms contained therein.

Please note there is no lift to the venue.
