About this Event
In this one day workshop you will learn how to make a screenprint on paper under the expert guidance of Nick Morley (aka Linocutboy). The photo stencil method is very versatile and allows you to work with a variety of images, including photographic, digital and hand-drawn.
Using the photo stencil method you will learn:
- How to prepare a photographic image (up to A4)
- How to prepare a hand drawn image with a variety of media
- How to coat a screen with photoemulsion
- How to expose and wash out the screen
- How to mix and test colours and control ink transparency
- How to print onto paper with a squeegee
- How to correct common printing problems
- How to register (line up) each layer in your print
- How to clean up
- How to reclaim the screen (remove the stencil)
By the end of the workshop you will have a set of prints to take home and the knowledge and skills to continue making screenprints independently.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those with some previous experience. Maximum class size is 4 people.
About the Tutor
Nick Morley has been making screenprints for more than twenty years and has many years of teaching experience in both London and Margate. Nowadays he mainly makes linocuts but he often combines the two techniques. More of Nick's work can be seen at www.linocutboy.com
About the Studio
Hello Print Studio is a professional artist's printmaking studio based at RESORT in Margate. Hello Print Studio has facilities for screenprinting, etching, relief printing and letterpress. It is available to hire on Wednesdays. The studio is on the Dreamland site, near Margate Station and Margate's famous Main Sands. The entrance to the studio is via Dreamland carpark (Belgrave Road)
