What is scentwork?
Dogs use their nose every day, it is one of their primary senses. One of the most fun things to do with your dog is to teach them how to search! We don't have to teach them to use their nose, but we can teach them to find something specific that we want them to find.
This is an activity most dogs will find really fun. In addition it is a great thing to use to tire them out and give them enrichment on busy days or when the weather is not the best. You can do scentwork both inside and outside, and can be a fun activity to do together with kids.
Neither you, nor your dog needs any prior knowledge to join or have fun on this course.
On the course we will have a combination of theory and practical training both days. You will get an introduction to training fundementals, scentwork and the dogs amazing nose.
Practical training
In our practical training with the dogs our focus will be on two things:
1. To teach the dog to recognize a specific scent
2. To teach the dog to find an object we have chosen
You will learn fundemental techniques on how to teach a scent so that you can learn you dog to find anything you want. We will also give you some tips, tricks and inspiration on how you can apply and use scentwork in your everyday life.
