12p-2p

Cost: $40

Course Description:
This 2.0 hour workshop will progress from a presentation of key historical developments in the general practice of yoga/meditation, to the specific practice of Sat Nam meditation. Attendees will receive a brief introduction to Transcendental Meditation and guided in a brief practice for purposes of comparing/contrasting with Sat Nam. Scientific evidence will be presented demonstrating the powerful, positive effects of Sat Nam on the brain, cognitive functioning, and a chromosome “marker” of cellular health and aging after 8 short weeks of daily, 12-minute Sat Nam practice. Scientific research on other lifestyle habits that supplement and support Sat Nam and long-term optimal cell, brain, and emotional health will also be presented. Myths and self sabotaging narratives about meditation will be addressed. Attendees will be trained in every component and modality of a Sat Nam meditation practice, given a comprehensive, step-by-step visual “how-to” aid, and receive a presenter demonstration before engaging in a 6 minute, and a 12 minute, group Sat Nam meditation practice. Practice “tips” from years of Presenter experience will be provided. Time will be reserved at the end for questions/answers, and discussion.

Benefits of Regular "Sat Nam" Meditation:
Recent research has demonstrated, in multiple studies, by physicians and a Nobel prize winning scientist, that previously non-meditating subjects who performed daily, 12-minute “Sat Nam” meditation for a duration of only 8 weeks:
increased their telomerase activity by 43% (telomerase is an enzyme that works in conjunction with telomeres, the protective “end caps” of chromosomes and “markers” of aging, degeneration, disease, and ipso facto, cellular health and longevity)
reduced their symptoms of depression, tension, anger, and confusion
improved their cognitive functions of attention, concentration, and short term memory
increased blood flow to the their medial pre-frontal cortex, the thalamus (thought to be the seat of consciousness), and to the anterior and posterior cingulate gyrus (an area of the brain in which a marked decrease in blood flow and oxygen is thought to be a first indicator of Alzheimer’s disease)
