Introduction to Play Therapy
Whether you currently work with children or hope to in the future, Play Therapy is a crucial treatment option for understanding and working with your clients from a developmentally appropriate approach. In this course, you will get the opportunity to learn about how play therapy started, the theories in play therapy, and basic play therapy skills. In this course, we will primarily focus on identifying the core elements of 3 main theories: Client Centered Play Therapy, Adlerian Play Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy. Would it really be a play therapy course without doing a little play? Of course not! There is play and experiential learning built into the course to make sure you leave confident in implementing basic components of play therapy into your practice.

In Person: This will be an in person training. Participants must be present throughout the presentation and will be awarded 6 IN PERSON CE upon successful completion of the course.

Brooklyn Hancock, LMHC, Registered Play Therapist
Brooklyn Hancock is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Registered Play Therapist. She is also AutPlay Certified and EMDR Certified. Brooklyn currently serves on as the Vice President of the Florida Board of Play Therapy. She has previously worked in the school system and has subsequently become certified as a school counselor. Being in the schools, she has a wide variety of experience with various issues and populations. Additionally, since the pandemic, she has gained experience working with adults via telehealth and in-person through her private practice. In addition to working with children, adolescents, and adults she is also passionate about helping other professionals build beautiful and thriving businesses.
Objectives:
- Learners will be able to identify the 10 seminal theories of play therapy.
- Learners will be able to identify 5 client centered play therapy skills.
- Learners will be able to describe the Crucial C's of Adlerian Play Therapy.
- Learners will be able to identify the goals of misbehavior in Adlerian Play Therapy.
- Learners will be able to identify at least 3 Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy Skills.
- Learners will demonstrate at least 2 directive play therapy activities.
- Learners will demonstrate at least 3 client centered play therapy skills.
6 hour of CE provided: Delta Family Counseling is approved by the Florida Department of Health under Fl Statute 49I to offer continuing education for Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Mental Health Counselors. Provider Number BAP-50-30047 expires 03/31/2025. APT Approved Provider #10-286.
Play Therapy Credit may not be awarded to those who are not mental health professionals.
Cancellation Policy: All cancellations must be requested in writing and received no later than September 20, 2024. Cancellations are subject to a $15 processing fee. Substitutions (someone else attending) or transfer of registration to another training date may be requested. No refunds issued after September 20, 2024.
