Nature Based therapy (NBT) is an emerging field in both complimentary therapies and holistic health treatment which has been incorporated into the practice of many medical and mental health professions as a complimentary means for treating a variety of physical, emotional, and cognitive disorders.

A brief of the day:

This 6 hour workshop will be guided through narrative discussions on nature based interventions followed by experiential learning that can be applied to all contexts within the healthcare and education system. We will commence the day with a grounding meditation and flow through processes of nature connection with the introduction of nature reflections, nature based mindfulness, nature journaling and creative arts based interventions. We will guide you through an experiential processes where you can begin to create a vision on how to implement this into both professional and personal practice. Each participant will have the opportunity to share their experiences to further enhance the learning outcomes. We will close the workshop with a tea ceremony that will focus on reflection and integration.

Your facilitators:

Kit Kline

Kit Kline was born in Vancouver, Canada and has Wampanoag, German, Scotish and Irish ancestry. She is a registered social worker and clinical supervisor with over 20 years of experience working as a counsellor specialising in mental wellbeing and addictions both within mainstream community health and Aboriginal healthcare services. Kit has a master’s degree in social work as well as a master’s degree in Aboriginal studies, a BA in Indigenous studies and post graduate qualifications in mental health, alcohol and other drugs, welfare studies, youth work, holistic healing and training and assessment. She is also a certified Compassionate Inquiry practitioner with a passion for social and environmental justice.

Kit is the Founder of Nature Based Therapy. Her approach consists of implementing nature-based interventions and takes a holistic approach to working with people supporting them to find and work with their authentic self. Kit lives on the surf coast of Victoria in Australia, where she moved to when she was 9, and has four children whom she enjoys spending time in nature with, traveling, and learning about different cultures.

Sheryl Hanula

Sheryl Hanula is a trauma informed Nature Based Therapist, embodied meditation educator, community and psychedelic advocate. With a background in hospitality management and event production, paired with a degree in Anthropology, Sheryl has spent the past 20 years investigating the intersection of cultural divesity and impactful, connective experience.

As a survivor of abuse and trauma, Sheryl has used those experiences to catalyze personal growth and resilience while meeting adversity and challenges. Channeling these past experiences into a commitment to help others embody healing and hope through a safe space creation, heart resonance and continued education.
