What is Nalbinding?
Nalbinding is an ancient textile craft that predates traditional knitting and crochet. Using a single needle, nalbinding creates a distinctive, tightly-woven fabric through the interlocking of loops.
About this event:
During the 2.5h session you will learn a brief history of this ancient craft and receive demonstrations from a Master Craftsperson. Keila will guide you through the step-by-step process of creating intricate stitches using the Oslo stitch technique.
You will learn the thumb tensioning method, how to form a chain, join a chain and work in the round, how to join new lengths of yarn and how to increase/decrease.
During the session you will have the opportunity to start your own small project.
Further resources will be available to purchase on the day for you to take away.
Includes: Oslo stitch printed instruction sheet, 1 x bone nalbinding needle* and 1 ball of Drops Snow wool.
*If you would prefer a wooden needle instead please notify me before the event.
Perfect for beginners! You just need plenty of patience and fine motor skills. No prior experience is necessary but if you can knit, crochet, weave, hand sew or embroider then you will already posess some of the key skills needed to try your hand at this endangered ancient craft.
This course is designed for participants aged 12+
Resources are available for both right and left-handed crafters.
There is ample free parking onsite and step-free access if required. Refreshments will be provided but please bring your own drinks container.
