Description:
This workshop is an introduction to motion capture (MoCap) technology, designed for creative technologists, digital artists, dancers, performers, and anyone interested in the dynamic possibilities of live motion capture.
Through a combination of lecture and interactive activities, we will explore the different technologies used to sense body and facial movement, while showcasing inspiring use cases from the fields of performance and interactive media.
Agenda:
Part 1: Presentation
- Introduction to Motion Capture: Understand the basics of motion capture, its use in the field of media art. Presentation of selected artworks that explore MoCap. From interactive installations to live performances.
- Explore the different kinds of motion capture systems: optical, inertial, and depth-sensing, along with facial capture techniques. We'll discuss their respective strengths, limitations, and specific use cases in creative work.
Part 2: Hands-On Exploration
- Participants will have the opportunity to try different types of motion capture equipment, and experiment with live setups with UnrealEngine, and explore the technical and creative possibilities firsthand. The open space will be a collaborative environment to test the equipment, ask questions, and brainstorm potential applications.
Audience: This workshop is designed for creative technologists, digital artists, dancers, performers, and any individuals interested in live motion capture. No previous knowledge needed!
