Do you have a passion for manga and comics, and would love to learn how to create one? Learn about sequential art from artist FSc.
About this Event

This workshop is for beginners who would like to understand the make-up of manga or comics.

The session will introduce participants to sequential storytelling including the different storytelling formats, visual symbolism and elements used in manga or comics.

Participants will explore ways to come up with ideas to create a manga or comic and will complete a one page or four panel visual story by the end of the class.

This workshop is suitable for those aged 15 and above who would like learn how to create visual stories. Basic materials will be provided but participants are encouraged to bring their own preferred drawing materials.

This programme will be conducted in-person at the Singapore Book Council if restrictions permit. Otherwise it will be converted into a virtual workshop conducted via the Zoom platform. Participants do not need a Zoom account to take part in the workshop.

Facilitator

Foo Swee Chin (often abbreviated as FSc) is a manga creator and illustrator based in Singapore. Her works include A Lost Stock of Children and Mince (Neko Press), and Chimney 25 and Zeet (Slave Labour Graphics). She has been published in Singapore, Japan and the US. Swee Chin has illustrated for Asukashinsha Publishing and other Japanese magazine and has gained a following in Japan. Swee Chin is currently a freelance illustrator and artist with a Patreon account.

Cancellation:

The workshop can be cancelled or postponed two weeks before the workshop date if the minimum number of participants is not met. Participants will be fully refunded for workshops cancelled by us.

Participants who are unable to attend a workshop they have registered for are to inform us of the reason two weeks before the workshop date. They will be fully refunded in the event of extenuating and mitigating circumstances (E.g. illness, bereavement, accidents) . Those who inform us up to 5 working days before the workshop date will receive a 50% refund. Those who did not turn up at the workshop will not receive a refund.

Upon registration, you are deemed to have read and understood the cancellation and withdrawal policy and accept the terms contained therein.
