Join us for the joy of traditional letterpress printmaking. We'll begin with an introduction to the equipment and terminology, covering everything from reglets and galleys to furniture and diphthongs. Then, it's straight into the practical workâsetting type and pulling some proofs. The hands-on experience will provide a foundational understanding of the process of working with traditional elements such as wood and metal types. This workshop will qualify participants for our open-access press hire sessions.
Workshop Details:
- Facilitators: Led by designer, educator, and typographer Clint Harvey and Dzintra Menesis, resident artist printmaker, and illustrator.
- Content: Historical exploration, hands-on activities, and technological integration.
- Practical Experience: Participants will create personalised prints and gain insight into the intricacies of typography and letterpress printmaking.
Workshop Outcomes:
- Gain an appreciation for the convergence of tradition and technology in typography design and relief printmaking.
- Acquire practical experience in letterpress printing, colour mixing and woodblock elements.
- Foster ongoing discussions on typography and printing history, bridging the gap between academia and practice.
