About this Event
Welcome to the Introduction to Leaf Miners: Training for Beginners event!
Join BIS and County Moth Recorder for Brecknockshire, Norman Lowe on this hands-on, introductory training course designed for beginners interested in identifying and understanding leaf miners- the tiny larvae of various insects (mainly moths, flies, beetles, and sawflies) that live and feed within the leaves of a wide range of tress and plants. Their feeding patterns create distinctive "mines" or trails visible on the leaf surface, which can be used to identify the species.
Join us at Llangorse Multi Activity Centre on November 5, 2025 at 1:00 PM to learn all about these fascinating insects.
This session includes both indoor and outdoor activities.
Indoor introduction – Learn about leaf miners and how to record your findings.
Field session – Head outdoors to explore the grounds of the Activity Centre, searching for and identifying leaf miner species.
Refreshments & discussion – Return indoors for a Q&A and open discussion about leaf miners and recording in general. Refreshments will be available to purchase from the venue’s café.
We’ll also discuss opportunities for a follow-up session at BIS to build on your field experience.
We look forward to seeing you at the event!
