Join Jefferson G.A.P. Coalition on Wednesday, March 19 at 6:00 pm at the War Memorial Building for an introduction to home food preservation. Learn the basics and science of home food preservation so you will be prepared to preserve your harvest or foods you purchase at local farmers markets this year. We will discuss various methods of home food preservation (water bath canning, pressure canning, fermentation, freezing, and dehydration). Show and tell will involve canning equipment, fermentation equipment, best books for home food reservation, and a quick demo of assembling products for the canner. There will be ample time for questions and answers.
Participants will receive a bibliography of preservation
books and a recipe with detailed instructions for fermented
dill pickles via email.
Your instructor will be Diane Blust, G.A.P. Board Member
and a Virginia Cooperative Extension Service Master Food
Volunteer specializing in home food preservation.
Suggested donation $10 will go towards G.A.P.’s local
