About this Event

Welcome to Introduction to Green Cleaning Solutions!

The River Ravensbourne runs through Brookmill Park to join the Thames a quarter of a mile away. Water from the area was regarded as the "gold standard of water purity" in 19th Century London. It remains an important source of water today.

Join the and the , for an introduction to green cleaning materials, recipes and tips that work. Learn how to make your own cleaning preparations and stop toxic household chemicals from going down kitchen and bathroom drains.

Inspired by green cleaning star, Nancy Birtwhistle and her book Clean and Green, this is an opportunity to make a positive impact on the health of you and your household and the planet's waterways.

The session will be held in the Park Hut and runs from 10.15-12.30.

Refreshments will be provided.

Using simple ingredients, you will learn how to make:

  1. All-purpose cleaner for kitchen and bathroom
  2. Floor cleaner
  3. Toilet and thick limescale remover

And gain tips for how to use:

  1. Oxygen bleach - which doesn't bleach colours
  2. Citric Acid - for quickly descaling your kettle
  3. Bicarbonate of Soda to remove grease
  4. Hot water to remove stains
  5. Cleaning soda for washing

You will be offered samples to take away to get started.

Facilitators: Julia Rowntree, Friends of Brookmill Park volunteer, Justas Kanapeckas, Art of Zero Living Refill Shop, Greenwich, SE10.

Numbers for this session are limited to 15 with a limit of 3 places per booking.

`The event is free. Donations to Friends of Brookmill Park welcome. Funds go towards purchase of plants, refreshments for volunteers at garden and river clean up events and other sundry items.
