History of felting
In ancient civilizations like Egypt, Turkey and China, needle felting was used to embellish textiles. It served both functional and decorative purposes, crafting clothing, blankets, and art pieces.
Different regions found cultural significance in wool felting. In Europe, especially Scandinavia, intricate woollen designs inspired by nature were common. In Asia, particularly Japan, needle felting was used to create kawaii characters and traditional motifs.
About the Presenter
Julija Kolega Halilovic from Soul Portraits and Art Julija is a felt artist enchanted by the magic of turning wool fibre into a cohesive felted fabric. Through extensive reading and experimentation, her techniques are self-taught and continually evolving.
Employing both traditional and modern felt-making techniques, Julija creates hand-felted sculptural pieces of functional, decorative, and wearable art. Her work is incredibly intuitive and unites the hands, head and heart.
