About this Event

Introduction to Cross Country Skiing

Come join us for a fun-filled day learning the basics of cross country skiing! Whether you're a beginner or just looking to brush up on your skills, this event is perfect for all levels. In partnership with KMAC Guides, experienced instructors will guide you through the fundamentals of this exciting winter sport. Don't miss out on this opportunity to explore the beautiful snowy landscapes of Rocky Mountain National Park while getting some exercise and fresh air. Grab your gear and join us for a day of adventure!

Who: Open to ages 16 and up. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Where: We will meet at Estes Park Visitor Center and travel to the trailhead together in Conservancy vehicles. The program location depends on snow conditions.

What's Included:

  • Transportation to the trailhead from Estes Park Visitor Center
  • Park entry fees
  • Cross Country ski, boot, and pole rentals
  • Instruction and guide services from KMAC Guides and Rocky Mountain Conservancy staff

What to Expect: Expect a half day of moderate activity on snowy, gentle slopes. Participants should be prepared to spend a half day outside in cold, windy, and snowy conditions.

Level: This program is rated as Moderate – These programs are most appropriate for those with some hiking experience. Prior experience hiking or walking above 8,000 feet is recommended. Participants should expect to fall a few times as they learn a new skill and should be able to get back up on their feet without assistance.

What to Pack:

Come dressed in winter clothing layers and pack the following:

  • Day Pack
  • Extra warm layers
  • Gloves (waterproof recommended)
  • Hat/buff
  • Sunglasses/goggles
  • Sunscreen
  • Snacks/Lunch
  • Water (2L)

Rocky Mountain Conservancy reserves the right to change the program location due to trail and weather conditions at any time.

Our programs proceed, rain or shine. However, if weather or road conditions become unsafe, Rocky Mountain Conservancy will cancel the program. Participants will be notified by email and full refunds will be issued automatically for all participants.

Cancellations:

If your plans change and you are no longer able to join us, please send an email to [email protected] to let us know. We check in with ALL registered participants at the start of every program.

Refunds will be automatically issued for cancellations made at least 7 days in advance. Cancellations made fewer than 7 days in advance are not eligible for refunds.

Note: This program is not eligible for member discounts.
