About this Event
Introduction to Cold Water Swimming Session
What equipment will I need?
It is your choice to you wear a wetsuit or normal swim costume/shorts, we can enter the cold water with either. A wetsuit allows you to stay in for a bit longer but it is a pain to get on and off.
You must have something covering your feet – swim socks or shoes – there is debris and mud at the bottom of the pond.
For after your swim – a towel to dry off, easy clothing for getting dressed quickly and a warm drink from a flask.
Optional extras (but not necessary): for extra warmth you could bring swimming gloves, a hat to wear when swimming and a tow float. Something to stand on when changing is always useful – I chopped up an old yoga mat.
What will the session involve?
You will begin with a short introduction talk about cold water, advice for swimming safely, and can ask any questions, getting a good look at Chaloner Pond.
As a group you will enter the water, using breathwork to support your entry and you will be able to enjoy a short swim and chat in the water.
Remaining as a group, you will leave the pond and change. Reviewing the swim and how it went over a warm drink, perhaps planning your next one!
How can I prepare?
Read the terms and conditions for Chaloner Pond from the website.
It is your responsibility to make sure you are well enough to enter cold water, if you are at all unsure, please consult your doctor first.
Stay calm and enjoy the experience – it will be fun, with probable shrieking and laughter but you will feel amazing afterwards!
