If you've heard of clicker training and want to know how to get started this is for you! Or if you haven't but want to have a look at a training technique that encourages horses to try and focuses on the positive you might find this interesting too!Participants can choose to buy a clicker training starter kit to keep. Everyone will get a copy of my notes as well.
There will be a theory session with some exercises for both participants and fence sitters to take part in. This will include
- what are the steps in clicker training
- how it is different to other training techniques
- why does it use a clicker and treats, and does it have to use them? (And no it's not bribery with treats)
- how to read the horses body language so you know they are able to learn
- how to break down what you want into steps and then shape the desired behaviour
Participants will then have an opportunity to start clicker training with one of my horses with exercises to introduce a clicker and working up to target training. This will all be ground work, there's no riding.
Participants tickets $100 with an option of a clicker training starter kit $20 https://square.link/u/Ju97TFsl
Bring your own lunch and drinks, kitchen facilities available but no food is provided.
You will be required to wear a riding helmet to current EA standards when handling horses. Comfortable boots and gloves are recommended. Enclosed shoes are a minimum.
Gates will open at 10:30.
If you need any accommodations to make your experience better please either leave me a comment when booking or send me a message.
There is ramp access to clubrooms and there is an accessible bathroom inside. Carers and support workers are welcome for free, just leave a note on the booking form so I can include an extra chair when setting up.
If you haven't been to the DVHR grounds before here is a map of the entrance off Kensington St https://maps.app.goo.gl/q7Ra7JNkWdVYC5mw7 . The grounds and clubrooms where we will be are behind the pacing track through a second gate. Just follow the gravel track around and enter through the next gate for car parking.
The clubrooms have two entrances. The toilet is just inside the door closest to the gate or is also accessible from inside. Ramp access is on the far side and leads to a deck and entrance door into the main area and kitchen.
No smoking on site.
Only support animals under the Disability Act are allowed, please leave your pet dogs home.
If people are unwell or have COVID like symptoms please do not attend. A refund is available with a medical certificate.
