Join Marilyn, founder of Eterate Calligraphy for an enriching Introductory Workshop of Brush Pen Copperplate Calligraphy at Gather Cowork by Cathay Organisation

The beginner-friendly workshop will provide you with knowledge of calligraphy terminology and tools to get started on your calligraphy journey. You will get to understand techniques to use a brush pen through warm-up drills and practice strokes. After getting familiar and comfortable with the new medium, we will work through all 26 copperplate minuscule. At the end of the session, we will go through tracing of the alphabet set, supplies and questions.

All materials are included and are yours to take home for continued practice. No prior experience is required. We're excited to introduce you to this new, portable and convenient medium. The workshop will focus on copperplate minuscule forms and writing techniques. Feedback and personal guidance will be provided. I look forward to sharing this passion of mine with you!

Precautionary measures in view of the coronavirus situation

As we resume our transition towards living with COVID-19, we are working closely with Gather Cowork to implement precautionary measures. Here are the extra precautions we will be taking during the workshop. Your safety and well-being, and making sure we figure out the best way to conduct the workshop, are our top priorities.

1. Temperature will be taken prior to entering the workshop space

2. Hand sanitizers will be provided at the entrance

3. Mask wearing is required as it is an indoor setting

About Instructor

Marilyn Chew is a Singaporean calligraphy artist. A mirror menu installation for a New York City cafe kickstarted her creative journey. While a Creative Producer in New York, Marilyn side-hustled as a calligrapher. She practiced both modern and traditional calligraphy under various Master Penmen and other veterans in the field. Named Honoree of Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia - The Arts and one of the Most Fashionable Calligraphers by Harper’s Bazaar, she has designed for international companies such as Christie’s, Montblanc, and P&G.

She is a member of the International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers and Teachers of Handwriting, as well as the Society of Scribes, New York. She is a certified instructor of American Cursive Handwriting by Master Penman Michael Sull.

Please note that workshops are non-refundable once purchased but transferable to another person 3 days prior to the workshop. A minimum of 3 students is required and is limited to a maximum of 9 students. For age 13 and up. Refund will be provided if the workshop is canceled by the organizer.
