Summary: This course will introduce the cornerstone of blacksmithing; repetition of design using the scroll and twist. 


 Description: In this course, students will be introduced to blacksmithing through hands-on experience.

The course will cover the following:

  • Basics of forging hot iron
  • Methods used by the Smith
  • Proper utilization of the tools
  • History of the tools

Students will replicate a skewer as implementation of the skills and techniques learned. 

There are no prerequisites required for this class and any and all skill levels are welcomed.

All tools and material will be provided.

Students must wear the appropriate attire, which consist of:

  • 100% cotton long sleeve pants
  • 100% cotton long sleeve or over shirt
  • Closed toed shoes or boots.

(Please Note: No polyester is to be worn and long hair must be tied back.)

Creating collections of jewelry, knives, key-chains, furniture and a large assortment of projects and custom commissioned pieces Kennen continues to grow and expand his portfolio trying new things and pushing himself to new levels. Kennen studied art at the University of Montevallo where he received his BS in studio art and MA in art education. He is currently continuing his education and pursuing an MFA at SCAD in Atlanta. He has been working with metal for 13 years and forging for the past 10. A: Ticket sales end two days before the event begins.


Q: How many people can sign up?

A: Each class has a maximum of 8 people. Ideally, participants will attend all three classes.

 

Q: Is there an age requirement?

A: Students must be above the age of 15, Students under 18 will either need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian or will require additional permission paperwork.

 

Q: What sort of equipment is required?

A: All equipment will be provided for you.

Q: Is my registration/ticket transferable?

A: Yes, please notify us before ticket sales end about any transfer of purchase.


Q: What is the refund policy?

A: We will refund any ticket requested for any reason up to a week before the course runs, after that point we can only give credit to a future course. If the class cannot run as scheduled, for whatever reason, purchaser will have the option of a full refund or credit towards the makeup course.
