The term "yoga" has many traditional meanings. In Ayurveda, the traditional medical science of India, yoga refers to the "right usage" and "right combination" of herbs. A yogic usage of herbs implies such a harmonic application of the potencies of herbs.
In this introduction class, we will do an overview of Ayurvedic doshas as well the symptoms of imbalances within those doshas that may lead to a build up of toxins (ama), potentially leading to infection or disease. We will explore the 6 tastes (or rasas) and their associated energy (heating or cooling) and effects on the tissue systems (dhatus).
The purpose of this class is to present Ayurveda, not as something foreign or ancient, but to make it a practical application of herbalism. We will learn to use herbs as "special foods" or supplements serving to eliminate excesses and strengthen deficiencies. Join Ami from The Keep Store for this foundational classes BEFORE our upcoming subsequent sessions on:
-Making your own herbal decoctions/infusions (in collaboration with our friends at Whimsy Tea!),
-External applications and usage of herbs for skincare,
-and Ayurvedic cooking classes!
In addition to being a Yoga Alliance certified yoga teacher (teaching locally for the last several years) and a yoga practitioner for over 20 years, Ami is also a certified Pranayama (breathwork) and Meditation teacher. Her true passion is found in teaching others as a certified Ayurvedic Wellness Coach and Ayurvedic Nutritionist how to listen to the signs and symptoms their body is telling them in order to manage their wellness before disease management becomes necessary.
