Workshop Description: This two-day workshop offers an introduction to the principles and practices of archaeological conservation.
Participants will learn how artifacts are cared for after excavation—including documentation, cleaning, stabilization, and storage—through hands-on exercises that build practical skills. The workshop emphasizes preserving material culture, understanding ethical and cultural considerations, and applying preventive conservation techniques. It also highlights materials commonly found in Newfoundland and Labrador and their specific preservation needs.
No prior experience is required, making this workshop ideal for students, recent graduates, and heritage enthusiasts eager to begin exploring the field of archaeological conservation.
Meet at the Education Building, Room ED 3005. Some workshop sessions will take place at Queen's College.
