Join us for this 6 week class and learn everything you need to know to get started painting with acrylic!
Six Tuesday mornings 10am - 1pm: 17th Sept, 24th Sept, 1st Oct, 8th Oct, 15th Oct, 22nd Oct.
Over the course of 6 weeks, Denise will guide you though approaches to painting a range of subjects in acrylic paint. You’ll will have the opportunity to develop a better understanding of composition, colour, paint application and using gels & mediums for acrylic. This course is suitable for beginners and improvers with plenty of individual guidance and one to one support with Denise.
What to expect
We will be covering all aspects of working with acrylic paint – exploring abstraction, landscape painting, still-life, the human figure and portraiture. In the final week, you will consolidate your learning and apply it to your chosen subject, completing a finished painting utilising all the techniques you have acquired.
Denise will spend time tutoring each student, guiding them to develop their particular skills. All paint, brushes and quality acrylic paper are provided and if you have any questions, just email Denise on [email protected]. Places are limited to 11 students and pre-booking is essential.
What you need to bring
All materials will be provided for this course. Please wear an apron and clothes to paint in – you may also want to wear gloves if you are sensitive to paint. Tables, easels and chairs are available for all students.
Getting to the studio
The session starts promptly at 10am on Tuesday 17th Sept 2024 and you are welcome to arrive from 9.45am. Approach New England House from the New England Street side of the building and walk up to the locked blue double doors next to the sign for the ‘Building Manager’s Office’. The main doors will be open, so come in and take the lift to the Floor 5 – turn left out of the lift to level 5, Unit 1 South, just knock and walk in. There is parking at London Road car park, Elder Place & Trafalgar St car parks; Brighton station is a 5-minute walk from the studio.

Safety & accessibility
If you have any accessibility needs, please do let us know beforehand on [email protected] and we will do everything we can to make sure you can enjoy the classes here. The building has a wheelchair ramp at the North side of the New England Street entrance and lifts up to level 5 with gender-neutral toilets & accessible toilets on floors 4 & 6 accessed by lift.
The studio itself has diffuse overhead panel lights for drawers with a spotlight directed at the model. Fixative spraying is not allowed in the studio and is done outside; our air purifier and good ventilation help control fumes. We keep the studio a safe environment by providing:
- Monitored ventilation (aiming for <900ppm CO2)
- Air purification with HEPA filters
- Sick pay for our freelance life models
- If you have covid, flu or bad cold symptoms we ask you not to attend - you will receive a refund as well as our appreciation!
Cancellations
Bookings are non-refundable. If you are unwell with a contagious illness you can not attend the class. If you are unable to attend after booking, please do get in touch with us on [email protected] to discuss the options for transferring your place to another attendee.
