This session is designed to give SLPs an overview of the AAC assessment process.
About this Event

This event will be hosted by the Tennessee Talks Project, a TN-DOE funded initiative to provide support and training to school-based clinicians addressing the AAC needs of students with significant disabilities.


SESSION TITLE: Introduction and Overview of the AAC Assessment Process


DESCRIPTION: This session is designed to give SLPs an overview of the AAC assessment process. Participants will learn how to classify language in children with complex communication needs and what the AAC considerations are at each language stage. There will be hands on opportunities to explore high tech robust language systems and learn features of these systems. The session will conclude with suggestions to match system features to what children need and a discussion of the insurance report writing requirements.


COST: Free, but registration is required


DATE/TIME: Friday, September 30, 2022 9:00 am – 2:00 pm (CST)


LOCATION: Middle Tennessee State University, McWherter Learning Resource Center , Room 101


LUNCH: We will break 30 minutes only for lunch. Concessions are available on campus or you may bring your own.


CEUs: This session does not offer CEUs, although a certificate of assistive technology training will be provided and these are generally accepted by ASHA for Continuing Maintenance Hours (CMH).


PARKING:
Special visitor parking is available on campus for $1 in the BRAGG COMM and HONORS parking lots, the closest to the LRC .


For a map and ticket, go to: https://www.mtsu.edu/parking/permit.php . On the parking services page, click the link under visitors, then click on ‘get permit’ at the bottom to pay. If you have any issues getting the parking pass, contact parking services at 615-898-2850.


o You may use either of two entrances: 1) enter from East Main Street onto Old Main Circle veering right which turns into Alumni Drive or 2) enter from Rutherford Blvd onto MTSU Blvd.

o Signage leading to conference parking lots will be in place from these two entrances only. Follow the signs that say “LRC Event Parking” to get to the conference parking lots.

o LRC signage will also be placed along sidewalks leading from these conference parking lots to the LRC building. Follow the signs that say “LRC”.

o With your parking permit you can park in any parking lot/space that is not handicap, reserved, metered or a tow zone.

o We will not be accountable for parking tickets received. It is the participant’s responsibility to follow parking guidelines.
