Intro to Winter Climbing (3 Days)Our Intro to Winter Climbing course is perfect if you want to try winter climbing for the first time in a supportive group environment.
Over 3 days, you’ll climb some really cool routes and learn:
❄️ Movement skills on snow, ice and mixed ground
❄️ Efficient ropework techniques for ascent or retreat
❄️ How to construct winter belays
❄️ Placing and removing winter protection – nuts, pegs, and ice screws
❄️ Avalanche risk assessment and avoidance
❄️ Winter mountain navigation
❄️ Route selection, route finding and assessing conditions
❄️ Dealing with all the above in harsh winter conditions
We’ll be in a small group with a maximum ratio of 1:2 per instructor, meaning you'll receive lots of personal attention while learning alongside other adventurous souls. Who knows, you might just find your future climbing partner among the group!

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need previous climbing experience?
You don’t need to be an experienced climber - we love teaching beginners! That being said, it’s good to have some summer or indoor rock climbing experience. A reasonable level of fitness also helps on the walk-in.
How long are the days?
Usually at least seven hours.
What gear do I need to bring?
We can provide all climbing equipment. Please check our kit list for more information on what you should bring.
