About this Event
An intensive beginner’s wheel throwing retreat, with two days of focused studio time. Explore the physical and meditative qualities of wheel throwing and learn the fundamentals of making a cylinder and bowl form.
It is perfect for anyone who would love to learn how to throw and finish a clay pot. It is suitable for beginners or anyone with existing knowledge who wishes to supercharge their skills.
With a focus on clay preparation, throwing, controlling the form, trimming, refining & finishing, and surface decoration at the leather hard stage.
DAY 1
Prepare clay (wedging)
Centre the clay
Throw cylinders to produce forms of even thickness
Developing basic forms
Wiring pots off the wheel
DAY 2
Trimming pots on the wheel from day 1
Making handles
Carving designs
Using coloured slips for decoration
You will be introduced to methods & techniques using demonstrations and references to examples. Support and guidance will be offered throughout the course.
The workshop will be held from 10.00 - 16.00 on both days: The studio will stay open until 17.00 on both days - giving you time for extra practice, if you feel like it.
The cost includes all materials and equipment including 2 glazed & fired pieces, which will be ready to collect later. Tea, coffee, and other refreshments will be available. It is recommended that you bring your own packed lunch each day.
The workshop is non-refundable. If you change your mind after you have paid, you may transfer your booking to a friend for the same session.
This course immerses you in the process, and you’ll learn a lot and feel a sense of achievement by the end of the course.
