About this Event
In this class participants will gain experience in the metal shop working with the MIG welder, along with supporting tools like the drill press, vertical, horizontal and portable band saws, angle grinders, and more. Participants will learn important safety precautions about the metal shop, and will leave the class officially cleared to use the metalworking facilities at PCMS.
This class is intended for those with little to no experience in the metal shop. Individuals with no metal shop experience are encouraged to take this class before taking future welding or machining courses. The class is expected to last about 4 hours. Attendees are encouraged to budget up to an extra hour after class to make sure they can get plenty of “hands on” time on the welder.
Required gear: All clothing should be non-synthetic (cotton or canvas is recommended), Long pants, long sleeve shirt, boots or other closed toe shoes, hair-tie for long hair, light duty work gloves, safety glasses and hearing protection. We advise attendees review this excellent guide ahead of the class: Miller MIG Welding Handbook.
