Note: This course is a 1 day & 1 evening sessionThis course is designed for beginners who are looking to learn the basics of rock climbing in a safe and supportive environment with our experienced instructors guiding you through the whole process. This course is perfect for those either making the transition from indoor top rope climbing to outside or for complete beginner climbers. The course will take place at a local climbing site, where participants will have the opportunity to practice their skills on real rock faces. The evening will focus on refining techniques learned during the day and providing additional practice time. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid understanding of top rope climbing and the confidence to continue climbing on their own.
Instruction is 1:8 with experienced guides
Dates and Timings
Saturday 19th October: 8am - 5pm
Tuesday 22nd October Evening: 6pm - 8.30pm
Pre-requisites
NZAC Member (non members are welcome to apply but must join the NZAC in order to be accepted onto the course - there are no exceptions)
Under 18 must have parental/guardian permission and must be at least 16 to attend.
What will be taught:
Balance, movement and technique on rock
Safe top rope belaying
Top rope climbing
Abseiling
Knots
Equipment and its use
Equipment Required:
Harness (please provide)
Rock shoes (please provide)
Chalk bag (optional)
Climbing helmet (Can be provided if requested)
ATC type belay device and HMS/Pear shaped locking biner (Can be provided if requested)
Safety/Anchor chain and small locking biner (Can be provided if requested)
Short prusik (1.3m total untied length) and small locking biner (Can be provided if requested)
Equipment can be purchased at Aspiring Safety, Bivouac or Further Faster and all give NZAC members discounts.
Cost
$130 will cover one full day and evening plus instruction and any of the equipment listed free of charge if requested.
Refund
A full refund will only be given for genuine reason if withdrawing from the course or if we have enough time to find a replacement for your spot.
