About this Event
In this mesmerizing class, you will learn the basics of suminagashi paper marbling.
Suminagashi, translated as “floating ink, ” is an ancient Japanese art form where ink is applied to the surface of water, manipulated to create beautiful patterns, and then transferred to a sheet of paper. From the first time your brush touches the water, you’ll be entranced.
- During this workshop, your instructor Leah McKnight will help you to create at least four one-of-a-kind suminagashi art pieces. First, we’ll go over a number of different techniques you can use to create your marbled designs, and then you’ll be free to sink into the relaxing flow of marbling.
In this workshop, you will - learn about the history of suminagashi marbling,
- understand the different supplies and techniques you can use to manipulate your designs,
- practice letting go of expectations and relaxing into the process,
- take home a pile of marbled papers to frame or craft with,
- see examples of crafts you can create with your marbled paper,
- learn in an intimate environment with one-on-one support as needed, and
- leave with a basic understanding of suminagashi to continue your meditation and art at home or at the studio!
Leah also teaches our Marbling Magic workshop, with paint instead of ink.
