Saṃskṛtam (Sanskrit) is known as the language of yoga.Dating to around 1300 CE, this classical Indo-Aryan language is one of the earliest documented languages. While Sanskrit is not a commonly spoken language today, most of classical yogic, tantric, and āyurvedic literature is written in this language. It is commonly used and referenced in yoga classes today. Learning to pronounce each syllable and, therefore, each word correctly in Sanskrit is a deep, profound practice in itself. This vibrational language allows its practitioners to sit with a deeper understanding of the language itself, the classical literature, and its hidden meanings. It also opens the possibility of one’s own personal expansion.
Join Samantha for an introduction to this profound addition to your yoga practice. We will explore the Sanskrit alphabet, its pronunciation, how each sound resonates in the physical body, and how to read basic IAST transliteration.
Ongoing tutorship is available after the course.
