This course provides the perfect balance of lecture and hands-on practice. Learners will gain the skills to become adept in utilizing passive movement techniques to gently unwind fascial restrictions, increase the mind-body perception of joint integrity, balance the ANS, and decrease resting muscle tension. The first portion of the course involves a discussion of the use and application of techniques, all expected outcomes of practice, the evidence behind the practice, cautions, and CIs. The second portion of the course provides learners with a practical approach which will instill confidence while working with various forms of passive movement.
Working with this series of techniques allows the MT to better palpate joint integrity and remove unnecessary muscle tension. In some cases, where muscle tension can turn into a pattern of holding, PM techniques provides sensory stimulation deep within the joint which helps reduce subconscious muscle guarding.
This course will review the structure of synovial joints, reflexive responses to proprioceptive stimulation, describe passive movement techniques, display how to use them, and discuss how to organize them within a practice sequence. There will be a review of the cautions and contraindications. We will discuss the expected outcomes and the evidence that proves these outcomes related to body structure and function.
