This price includes vase, kenzan (pin frog), clippers, and flower materials to be gathered around the farm.
This course will cover the basics of Japanese flower arrangement. No experience needed.
Learn the following:
Philosophy and History: Understanding the principles of minimalism, shape, and line and the connection to nature.
Techniques: Learning to cut, fix, and arrange branches and flowers using traditional tools like a kenzan (pin frog).
Structure: Following basic rules of proportion, such as the "shin", "soe", "tai" elements found in some schools.
Materials: Instructor will guide you on selecting and using various materials from around O' Brien Farm. Remember to wear warm clothing. All materials provided.

Meet your teacher:
Joyce Mcpherson is a graduate of the University of Windsor Theatre Program, Banff School of Fine Art and an Exchange student at the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan where she was introduced to Japanese flower arrangement known as ikebana or kado (the way of the flower).
She studied under Aiko Sato in Sapporo, Japan when she lived for 2 years as well as at the Japanese Cultural Centre in Toronto.
She has a love for nature and using material found in your garden or nature to create arrangements that add a creative addition to your home.
Currently Joyce is working in St John’s as Art Director on the feature Film Purgatory. Her film credits include The Copenhagen test, Black Phone 2, Children Ruin Everything, Regression,
Falling, The Handmaids Tale, and many other films and tv series.
