With Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge covering over 14,000 acres, there are more than 45 miles of trails to wander! As winter melts into spring, join refuge staff in exploring the trails for the Intro to Hiking program. No prior experience needed, and no special equipment required. Registration Information: 25 spots are open for optional registration through https://signup.com/client/invitation2/secure/108391542095/false?popup=true#/invitation
Optional registration allows us to prepare supplies and materials for the program, send reminders, and allows us to contact you in the event of inclement weather!
Activity Level: Medium-active. We will be walking outdoors for up to 1.5 miles.
Meet us: Meet us at the Old Cedar Avenue Trailhead shelter.
What to bring: Good walking shoes that could handle muddy or snowy conditions, water, and appropriate clothing. Monitor weather forecast and be prepared for the temperature and precipitation. A cancellation notice will be sent via email to registered participants in the event of severe weather. If you are not registered, please monitor our website, SignUp, or MeetUp page.
Accessibility: There is a parking lot and a port-a-potty toilet and no running water at this site. Flush toilets and water fountains may be available if weather allows, however, we recommend you bring your own filled water bottle. There will be a mix of paved and unpaved trails - They are not plowed so be prepared to walk in snow or slippery conditions.
Accommodation: The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is committed to providing access to these events for all participants. Please direct all requests for sign language interpreting services, close captioning, or other accommodation needs at least ten business days before the event to Oscar Hernandez at [email protected].
