About this Event
Learn the basics of spinning with a drop spindle: drafting fiber, controlling twist, and winding on. This class is intended for beginners and will cover how to create 'singles'- the simplest type of yarn. Time will be provided to work on your technique, and the class will conclude with an overview and demonstration of the Textile Lab's Ashford spinning wheel. Students can bring home just the yarn they create or keep the drop spindle provided to them for a small fee to keep on spinning at home.
Beginner wools average $10 per 4oz, students will likely consume less than 4oz unless they get good really quick. Drop spindles about $5/per (napkin math, may change slightly).
Open to ages 12 and up
