Discover exciting ways to create evocative mixed media collage and painted foundations for encaustic painting. In this workshop, you’ll explore a variety of encaustic-compatible paints, inks, mixed media, and photo transfer materials that will make your work shine with magical depth and translucency.
Try colouring, carving, and three-dimensionally texturing your encaustic surface with a variety of oil, wax, and chalk pigments as well as mastering tools, stamps, stencils, and myriad encaustic applications.
Students will learn encaustic fundamentals: studio set up, safety, tools, techniques, materials, and more and complete three 8” x 10” paintings and several sample boards.
Class size is limited to 8 students for personalized attention.
All supplies provided by instructor with the exception of cradled wooden panels, to be provided by student or purchased for a nominal fee from instructor.
Light snacks and drinks provided.
Accessibility: Elevator available on weekdays 8 am to 3:30 pm. Weekend students are required to climb two flights of stairs. Please advise instructor if accessibility is a concern.
Shary Bartlett teaches art workshops globally and nationally and has been a long-time fine arts instructor at Capilano University, Langara College and Red Deer College. Shary teaches online and with the Painting with Fire encaustic Masterclass, featuring 26 of the world’s top encaustic instructors.
