About The Event
An introduction to journeying using Ecstatic Trance Postures (ETP). A brief history of its re-discovery will be given, then right into the practice!
Below is a brief description:
Ecstatic Trance Posture . An ecstatic trance is induced by using a ritual body posture found from ancient artifacts and petroglyphs, coupled with rattling and/or drumming sounds. Ecstatic trance is a journey to the alternate reality.
All beings have the capacity for this journey but western civilization lost this as a result of several factors in our evolution. Left brain emphasis for survival and problem solving, becoming agricultural and then industrial societies, becoming city dwellers, all contributed to the loss of cultural and ceremonial traditions of who we used to be, hunter-gatherers and horticulturalists. Through the rediscovery of these rituals by anthropologist Felicatas Goodman’s research, we now know how to create a safe container to get in touch with this alternate reality. We create a sacred space to invite benevolent spirits from beyond the veil of our perceived reality to join us and guide us. We smudge ourselves and the space we occupy, call the spirits, sit quietly for a few minutes. The we assume a specific posture known to bring the spirits and trance, listen to drumming and/or rattling for 15 minutes and afterward journal our experience, then share that experience with our group!
