About this course
This is a great course for anyone who wants to learn (or develop) the traditional intaglio method of drypoint.
During the day participants will learn:
- How to make and print a dry point plate
- How to transfer a drawing or photograph onto the plate
- Mark making and tone effects in dry point
- Using chine colle
- Using the printing press
You will take home several prints from the same A5 plate (A4 paper size).
These processes are suitable for beginners and intermediate printmakers. You will be led by our fantastic course tutor Mike MacGabhann, who will support and guide you through the processes.
What will I need to bring?
All materials and equipment will be provided.
You may want to bring some ideas, imagery or reference material to draw from (though not essential).
Please wear old clothes as printing can get messy. No sandals, heels or open toed shoes. Aprons will be provided.
You may want to bring a snack and your own water bottle.
About Carousel Print Studio
Carousel Print Studio is a not for profit charity based on the ground floor of Exchange Place Studios in Castlegate, Sheffield. Carousel provides educational workshops in printmaking and opportunities for creatives in Sheffield, in a bright, warm, accessible and well equipped printmaking studio.
Carousel is located on the ground floor just to the left of reception. The doors are widened for ease of access and there is an accessible toilet. If you have any questions regarding access needs please do contact us at [email protected]
About the tutor
Mike is a specialist technician in Printmaking at Sheffield Hallam University where he supports students and staff in a variety of print processes. He has been a printmaking technician and practicing artist for over twenty years.
His specialisms include screen print, dry-point and cyanotype but in my role as a technician he has a good working knowledge of relief, letterpress and bookbinding.
Mike's personal practice focuses on the drawn image in particular portraiture and is fascinated with retro-graphic imagery. He takes inspiration from a variety of sources such as 17 th century engravings to Victorian illustrations and comic book art from the 1900’s to the present.
