About this Event
Join Charm City Meadworks with Mary Bee Beekeeping LLC for a three-part Intro to
Beekeeping Workshop Series! Whether you're a beginner or just curious about
beekeeping, this is the perfect opportunity to learn the basics from an experienced
Baltimore beekeeper.
This is a three-part course. You will be signing up for all three dates with your purchase.
The first two sessions will be in the "classroom" at Charm City Meadworks and the final session will be outside in the bee yard at Filbert Street Garden (1321 Filbert St, Baltimore, MD 21226).
Dates, Times, Topics:
Session 1: May 19th 2:00pm-5:00pm at Charm City Meadworks
Understanding honey bees and their colonies (bees in the hive and their roles,
developmental stages, and hive resources)
Session 2: May 26th, 2:00pm-5:00pm at Charm City Meadworks
Honey bee stressors and how to manage them (Varroa, other honey bee pests, and
controlling swarming)
Session 3: June 2nd, 2:00pm-5:00pm at Filbert Street Garden
Hands-on practice with live bees (smoker lighting, colony inspection, and monitoring for
pests).
Note, honey harvesting is not covered in this workshop series. Beekeepers should have
a solid understanding of how to care for their bees before collecting honey from their
hives. I recommend beekeeping for a full year before planning to harvest honey from
your bees!
This event requires a minimum registration of 10 people. If this minimum
registration is not met by Monday, May 13th, the event will be cancelled. If this occurs,
all registered attendees will be notified and will receive a full refund.
If you are allergic to bees, you should not register for this workshop series!
