This is a progressive 3 series course building upon the foundations so you can comfortably and safely grow both your strength and stamina.
Ashtanga Yoga is the traditional basis for much of modern vinyasa yoga. Each sequence (called a series) is a progression of postures linked with breath. You'll recognize many aspects of the practice but this workshop introduces concepts that often get overlooked in "power yoga" such as bandhas, dristhi, and ujjayi breath. In this progressive course, we start at the very beginning with yogic philosophy, breath work, sun salutations, and standing poses. Each session builds upon the foundations so you can comfortably and safely grow both your strength and stamina. We cover most of the sitting postures from Primary Series, as well as the finishing postures that are uniform throughout all the series. Participants will:
-Experience the physical benefits of a strong and balanced body
-Feel calm and focused
-Learn how to modify postures to fit individual needsUnderstand the traditions of the Ashtanga Vinyasa system
-Gain the foundations necessary to begin a regular Ashtanga practice
This workshop series is open to anyone new to yoga, seasoned yogis looking to explore Ashtanga and Ashtanga practitioners that are looking to refresh their practice.
Schedule: this is a 3 part series. To get the most benefit out of the course we recommend you commit to attending all three workshops.
Dates: Saturday May 11 , 18, and 25th @ 2-3:15pm (mark your calendar for all 3 dates)
Tickets: $75 for all 3 classes

Teacher Bio: Rachel Leshaw stumbled upon her first yoga class during college and immediately began a casual weekly practice. She completed her first Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher training with Larry Schultz at It’s Yoga in San Francisco in 2003. After a few years of teaching yoga in Bay Area public high schools, Rachel moved to Encinitas and started teaching adults. She completed the Anusara teacher training with Michael Fukumura in 2009. Rachel began practicing with Tim Miller in 2011. She completed his Primary Series teacher training in 2014 and Second Series teacher training in 2016. She had the pleasure of assisting Tim in his weekly Intro to Ashtanga classes that included philosophy and discussion of yoga sutras. Rachel’s classes are challenging, playful and lighthearted. She loves watching her students become more comfortable in their bodies and gain confidence.
