This 6 session course, designed for birth professionals, explores the ways in which grief impacts both the personal & professional spheres.
About this Event

Grief is a part of life. This fact is something we know cognitively to be true, but is also something we hold physically, and is inevitably woven into all aspects of our being. This six-session course will explore the ways in which grief impacts both the personal and professional spheres of our lives. The two are intertwined, each influencing the other through our daily experiences with loss.

Whether you are feeling the weight of loss through death, effects of the pandemic over time, and/or unmet professional expectations as a birth worker, writing may provide you with a path toward healing. Using concepts introduced in “The Healing Tree: A Guidebook for Navigating Grief,” each 2-hour session will include an opportunity to learn about grief, to write about your experiences, to connect with other birth professionals, and practice simple mindfulness-based exercises to use for yourself and/or with clients.

The 2023 session dates are 1/15, 1/29, 2/12, 2/26, 3/12, 3/26. Registration fee covers a copy of The Healing Tree guidebook. Course registration includes 5 partially funded tickets for BIPOC birth workers. Please email Jessica Gonzales at [email protected] for details.

What our past participants are saying:

"I always viewed grief as something that happened after big moments, such as a death. I never associated it with positive life changes, or successful pregnancies and births. With change, there is loss. It’s not something to shy away from! Having the skills to recognize grief and hold space for it not only helps me process my own grief but also helps me support my clients as they go through major life transitions. I highly recommend this course for all professionals who deal with life transitions and all people who are alive because these emotions affect us constantly with the changing world!"

"I wholeheartedly encourage and recommend this course! I learned specific tools for connection and support that I can use with my clients in their grief. Jodie also teaches self-compassion and coping skills that are so necessary for those of us whose profession includes emotionally supporting our clients."

Jodie continues on her own grief journey following the deaths of her sister and brother-in-law in 2004.
