Intersectional Approaches to Digital Skills: Role of EDI in Climate ActionThe UWS Digital Connectivity and Innovation for Sustainable Futures research group is proud to host an engaging panel titled "Intersectional Approaches for Digital Skills: Role of EDI in Climate Actions" as part of the British Council and HEC Pakistan funded project with theme on role of technology for climate change led by Professor Muhammad Zeeshan Shakir. In a world where climate change poses unprecedented challenges, this panel aims to explore the vital intersection of digital skills, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), and their role in shaping climate action.
Background:
Climate change refers to the long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns, which, since the 1800s, have been primarily driven by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and gas). These activities release heat-trapping gases into the atmosphere, leading to severe consequences such as increased flooding, wildfires, and droughts. Climate action has become a global imperative, and digital technologies, including early warning systems, hold promise as technology-driven interventions for vulnerable communities. However, the widespread application of digital technologies has also raised concerns about exacerbating the digital divide.
Panel Focus:
In this thought-provoking panel discussion, our experts will delve into essential questions, including how to create tailor-made technology-based solutions to address climate challenges through community engagement. Additionally, we will explore strategies to equip future generations with the digital skills necessary to raise awareness of climate change and discuss ways to support early-career professionals in becoming leaders who can ensure a sustainable future.
