4-day online meditation retreat. Envision a world where women have equal opportunity and support for spiritual development.
About this Event

This 4-day retreat is March 6, 5:00PM PST - March 9, 3:00PM PST.

During this online retreat, Linda Modaro & Nelly Kaufer will teach an open meditation practice that is followed by reflection and journaling. We welcome continuing students, as well as meditators who are new to our orientation towards meditation practice and retreats. The roots of this practice are to be found in the Buddha’s early teachings and are based on learning to trust the ways of knowing that develop in meditation, enabling you to be more responsive and present in your life.

-----

"Envision a Buddhist world where women not only have equal opportunities and freedoms as men but also receive the support necessary to develop their spiritual capabilities to their fullest potential. Such a vision requires us to confront and challenge the status quo, to expose and correct the sexist bias that pervades many Buddhist texts, and to work toward more inclusive and equitable Buddhist communities."

---Nhi Tran, Author of Budding Lotus in the West

International Women's Day has been around for over a hundred years, as have many of the issues still impacting women's advancement. A retreat dedicated to honoring women helps us imagine a world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. Buddhism has not been exempt from this bias. Issues that impact women in Buddhism have been around for over 2000 years, limiting women’s advancement.

We invited Nhi Tran, a meditator, teacher, and author, who brings her research of the Buddhist suttas to life, showing patriarchal translations were a later development. Reflective Meditation alternatively embeds feministic values in our practice and in our code of ethics. Gentleness, receptivity, a relational approach, inclusivity, responsible and transparent use of power, accountable collaboration, and respectful feedback — to name a few.

This retreat can error-correct some of the patriarchal views and assumptions that underlie Buddhism.
