Background
International Women’s Health Day celebrate annually on 28th May. Respecting women and keeping in mind their health. It’s a global observance that honors women’s achievements and raises awareness about the challenges they have faced. Bangladesh Community Health Foundation & International Women's Health & Gender Equality Conference-2024 wants to improve women’s health rights & gender equality, through a series of events organized with celebration humanitarian response partners, including the Government of Bangladesh, UN agencies, INGOs/NGOs, and women’s rights organizations.
An international women's health and gender equality conference is crucial in the Bangladesh context for several reasons. Firstly, Bangladesh faces unique challenges related to women's health and gender inequality, stemming from cultural norms, socioeconomic disparities, and inadequate access to healthcare and education. A conference of this nature provides a platform to address these challenges comprehensively by sharing best practices, exchanging knowledge, and fostering collaboration among global experts, policymakers, and grassroots organizations. Secondly, Bangladesh has made significant progress in improving women's health and advancing gender equality, but many gaps remain. Issues such as maternal mortality, child marriage, gender-based violence, and limited access to reproductive healthcare persist, necessitating concerted efforts at both national and international levels. By convening an international conference, Bangladesh can leverage the expertise and resources of global partners to accelerate progress and implement evidence-based interventions tailored to local contexts.
Thirdly, international conferences on women's health and gender equality serve as catalysts for policy reform and advocacy. They provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss pressing issues, raise awareness, and advocate for policy changes that prioritize women's rights and well-being. In Bangladesh, where legal and social barriers often impede progress towards gender equality, the support and solidarity of the international community can amplify voices calling for change and hold policymakers accountable. Moreover, hosting an international conference on women's health and gender equality can enhance Bangladesh's visibility on the global stage and attract funding and technical assistance for initiatives aimed at improving women's lives. It demonstrates the country's commitment to gender equality and positions Bangladesh as a leader in the fight for women's rights in the region and beyond. In summary, an international women's health and gender equality conference is essential in the Bangladesh context to address persistent challenges, leverage global expertise and resources, catalyze policy reform and advocacy, and elevate Bangladesh's role as a champion for women's rights on the international stage.
