International Summit on Mental Health and Disability 2023

More 150 Mental Health and Disability experts will converge in Toronto, Ontario, Canada for a 3-day summit that will share ideas and insights to overcome challenges and improve disability services and mental health well-being in Canada and global.

The International Summit on Mental Health and Disability (ISMHD 2023) organised by Mulongo Diaspora Symposium in partnership with Elgon International Solutions Inc. will take place on August 16-17, 2023, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Mental health problems are the single largest cause of disabilities in the world. Some of the major disabilities are depression, anxiety, dementia, and alcohol abuse. Together, an estimated 20 percent of lost healthy days are due to mental issues. And globally, only an estimated 10 percent of people who need attention or treatment for mental health problems receive it.

The Summit is an interprofessional Summit where health care providers and community partners connect to share educational and informative updates and practical, innovative, promising, and effective practices that improve the health and wellbeing of people with mental health and developmental disabilities across the lifespan.

One of the real benefits about this event is that along with clinical, executive, and research leaders, we also have people with lived experience, careers, and community workers attending, ensuring that all leaders across the sector are able to participate and share their expertise.

There will be a range of local and international speakers at the closed-door Summit.

The Summit strives to achieve equity, diversity, and inclusion through recognition of intersectionality—the inter-connected nature of social categorizations such as race, class, and gender as they apply to people with developmental disabilities, creating overlapping and interdependent systems of discrimination or disadvantage.

The Summit organizes systems for leaders to share innovations, network and problem solve across all sectors.
