We’re excited to invite you to the international scholarly conference "The Rhetoric of Sincerity in Central and Eastern European Literatures from the 19th Century to the Present" on 10-11 April 2025, at the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore. Sincerity is more than an ethical concept — it also shapes literature. With the rise of the contemporary phenomenon of "new sincerity," we examine how this idea appears in Central and Eastern European literature across history. Is sincerity an artistic strategy, a moral stance, or a rhetorical tool? How do writers navigate the tension between authenticity and performance? By exploring these questions, we gain deeper insight into sincerity’s role in literature and its evolving cultural significance.
