About this Event
What is the UN International Day of Peace?
The United Nations has been honoring one day per year for the last 55 years dedicated to peace. Started by Mahatma Ghandi as an invitation to put down all weapons of violence for just 24 hours, the day is meant to have humans pause our destructive patterns and choose more wisely.
Why do we celebrate International Peace Day at Patch of Heaven Sanctuary?
We celebrated A Day of Peace last year for the 1st time with a picnic and painting project. Everyone who came participated in a Pocket of Peace Meditation and painted a 4” peace medallion made of recycled log with their wishes for peace.
How will we celebrate this year?
This year we are planning a Peace Day Retreat @Patch, which includes meditation and more medallion painting, as well as the dedication of one of our ancient trees at the edge of the old growth forest to become our Peace Tree @Patch. The medallions will be hung on the tree, it will be adorned with handmade bells for Peace and other ornaments created to help us pause, breath and be the peace that we want to see in the world.
Why come to Peace Day Retreat @Patch?
Today’s times find us using words as weapons and beliefs as ways to build walls. The Peace Day Retreat @Patch will be focused on becoming mindful of speech, for example, practicing Non Violent Communication, delving deep into the connection that comes through Compassion practice and the ongoing need for each of us to engage in forgiveness. So much of the angst we suffer arises from not letting go personal slights and holding tight to grudges. This daylong retreat includes music, meditation, peace practices, mindful eating and a very special guided Mindful Pocket Park experience. We have a SPECIAL SURPRISE for the Peace Tree Dedication we’ll unveil very soon.
