INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY.
DATE: SATURDAY 18TH MAY 2024.
VENUE: YSTERPLAAT AIR FORCE BASE. CAPE TOWN.
TIMES: 8am till 3pm.
This amazing event is hosted by the Friends of the SAAF Museum. (the volunteers)
Now that I have your attention, let me sweeten the deal and enlighten you a little more about this amazing event.
Unfortunately it is NOT an Airshow. Just needed to make that crystal clear from the start. This event is about our "Hidden Gem", our amazing SAAF aviation museum with a few twists and turns.
Firstly, we will be having TWO Shackelton Ground Runs on the day. 10am and 1 pm. You don't want to miss this unbelievably show and it's great that you can get to choose which one you would prefer to be at. Just whichever time you choose, please be there an hour before.
Then all our museum aircraft will be moved outside the hangar onto the apron, in the sunshine to be displayed in there full former glory. This is where you will be able to get up close and personal with all our aircraft, meet our passionate and knowledgeable members and to feel what it is like to be pilot or a crew member. This is really going to be something you do not want to miss.
Then, we will also be having classic cars and bikes on show for every "petrol head" to go and see what real classic vehicles we have in Cape Town. Am sure a few of the cars will be started up to hear exactly what a real engine sounds like. Gonna be cool. ? ?
Then for the kids, once they have seen all the aircraft and cars, we will have a kiddy play area with Jumping Castles, face painting, tattoos and much more.
For the hungry one's we will have a variety of some really cool food vendors including some awesome coffee for everyone to satisfy those hunger pains and of course our famous German boerewors rolls as always will be one sale as well as plenty snacks and sweets.
For the thirsty one's, there will be lots of cooldrinks, juices and water on sale for the ones who prefer non alcoholic and for the one's who would prefer an ice cold beer or sip on a few glasses of wine, we will have 2 of our fantastic stakeholders joining us. The Shackleton Brewery company will be there with plenty "On Tap" beer as well as the incredible Ice Tea and Vodka drink(it's so yummieee) to serve you and then "Stettyn Family Vineyards" will be there in full force to let you sample there award winning wines and for you to purchase as you please.
Just some other important details for you. When you arrive at the museum, you will be met by our parking attendants who will welcome you, show you where to park and where the entrance is. Once you are inside, you will be asked by other of our volunteers to sign in and also pay a R50 ENTRANCE FEE if you don't mind. This is purely to keep our Shackleton alive, to fuel her and to take care of her. SHE IS NOT A CHEAP DATE....? ?
Once you have done all that, the day is yours to enjoy to the fullest and i can assure you, you will. There will be plenty volunteers around to assist you whenever you may need it. It is going to be a fantastic day for all, young and old. Bucket list item foresure.
Just a few other things. We DO have card facilities so no need to worry if you couldn't get to an ATM. We will also have medics avaliable if an accident occurs but hopefully they won't be needed. We will also have a "lost kids" area so if you are somehow seperate from your kids, you will know where to go. Remember, we on a military base, so they can't go far.
We the volunteers are so pumped for this fantastic event. We cannot wait to put on this "International Museum Day" event for Cape Town. Our history and heritage is so important to us and this one of the ways we can show and tell everyone what we do and what we are passionate about. We look forward to meeting everyone of you on the 18th May.
