An academic conference hosted by the University of Worcester's Constitutions, Rights and Justice Research Group (CRJ) and the School of Law
About this Event

Recent developments have led scholars to question the integrity of the UK’s relationship with the international law and institutions. Of note are the UK’s exit from the European Union, the migrant crisis and ‘Rwanda plan’, and proposed withdrawal from the European Convention on Human Rights to name a few. This conference invites papers that discuss the interplay between international law and domestic (UK) law. Papers may look at any area of international law, whether public or private, and take any methodological approach: doctrinal, socio-legal, comparative, critical or otherwise. Interdisciplinary papers are also welcomed. The following is a non-exhaustive list of themes that may be explored:

- The UK courts’ approach to and engagement with the findings and decisions of international courts, tribunals or other adjudicative bodies;

- Dualism and the UK constitution;

- The impact of international law on government policy;

- The role of international law in parliamentary deliberation;

- Dialogue between international and domestic institutions;

- Attitudes toward and/or perceptions of international law in the UK;

- The impact of international law on UK business and commerce

- Devolution & international law.

This is intended to be an inclusive and welcoming conference intended for all scholars, whatever their discipline or career stage. Contributions from early-career researchers and post-graduate research students are therefore welcomed. Papers from underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged.

To submit an abstract for the conference, please complete the form here: https://forms.office.com/e/E5vUAhA4vD by 9th September 2024.

Papers should be no longer than 20 minutes and may be accompanied with slides or similar. Any slides or other media should be submitted to Dr Michael Lane ([email protected]) by 7th November 2024.

Attendees that are not presenting papers will be able to book tickets (free) via Eventbrite.

Following the conference, contributors will be invited to submit their papers for publication (subject to peer review) in an edited collection (title and publisher TBC).

Any questions can be directed to the conference organiser, Dr Michael Lane ([email protected]).
