About this Event
The Church of Scientology, National Affairs Office is celebrating “International Human Rights Day” showing the artwork of seven artists who exhibited in the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations Human Rights Global Competition and International Exhibition.
Youth for Human Rights DC Chapter and Art Impact® International invite you to come and celebrate this year's International Human Rights Day with the artists!
Bill Jones served in the Air Force as a Visual Artist in the roles of Graphic Designer, Medical Illustrator, and Graphics Instructor, blending creativity with technical precision. Now a proud Air Force veteran, he continues his artistic journey as a Multimedia Illustrator while building his company, ArtisticXpressions.co, to share his creative vision on a broader scale.
Brenda Chandler, a Bronx, NY native who became fascinated with The Smithsonian Museums and became an intern at the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum. Now a resident of DC, graduated from the University of the District of Columbia with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design, Chandler exhibits her digital paintings about the quest for human rights.
Esther Iverem, a multi-disciplinary writer, artist and independent journalist. Her diverse body of social justice work includes four books, two digital media projects, several visual art exhibits and a podcast and show on Pacifica Radio. She brings us fascinating textile, fiber and mixed-media works.
Felicia L. Reed, an award winning fiber artist, Life Purpose, Spiritual and Christian Coach, Advocate, Speaker, and TV Host. She brings her widely celebrated “healing wraps”, created using the natural modality of wet felting.
Hubert Jackson is an award winning acrylic mixed-media painter whose current works address the fallen and their spirits on the Civil War battlefields of Virginia. A Howard University, Master of Fine Arts graduate, Jackson enjoyed studying with James Porter, Lois Jones, Ed Love, Jeff Donaldson, and Starmanda Bullock. In the early ‘70s, he participated in the historical national movement of community based mural projects under the advisement of Hughie Lee-Smith. Well traveled, exhibited and collected, Jackson retired after 34 years of teaching art in the DC public schools.
Janie McGee, a professional artist for 47 years documenting history and struggles with soul, heart, and spirit. Her mixed-media paintings express her love for history and hope for the future, both combined to create art that tells a story.
Jerome Smith, a self-taught artist, brings us small yet powerful works. Having grown up on the streets of Philadelphia, he turned to art and now feels blessed by being creative, an artist. His paintings and drawings inspire us to see the beauty around us and not be overwhelmed by the dark cloak of hate.
The exhibition begins at 6:00 p.m at The Church of Scientology, National Affairs Office, located at 1701 20th Street NW.
