About this Event
We invite you to the 32nd Commemoration of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP). #EndPoverty Day is dedicated to uplifting the voices of people struggling with poverty and advocating for solutions to end poverty through collaborative action at local, national, and international levels.
This year’s event will take place on Thursday, October 17th, from 1:15 pm to 2:30 pm at the ECOSOC Chamber, UN Headquarters. Following the opening ceremony, there will be a special observance at the Commemorative Stone in Honor of the Victims of Extreme Poverty, located in the United Nations gardens’ North Lawn.
The theme for this year, “Ending Social and Institutional Maltreatment,” focuses on two of the hidden dimensions of poverty. We will explore ways to take collective action to promote just, peaceful, and inclusive societies (Sustainable Development Goals 16)—while advancing our efforts on to end poverty in all its forms (Sustainable Development Goals 1).
Please note: The United Nations has a zero-tolerance policy for clothing, hats, or signs with political statements. Anyone displaying such items will not be permitted to enter. If displayed inside, the individual or group will be asked to leave immediately.
